I think you could subtitle this post as 2 Blogs & a Doll. homo-centric is about building community. I say that at the end of every reading. I say it when talking to people about the readings. And it's true, dammit. There is such as thing as community, there is a need for community, and there are bazillions of us out there who can better connect with each other to create a stronger community through all types of avenues: books, film, storytelling, theater, photography, music, charities, mentoring, even plain o' communication. Thing is, nobody really knows what the 'community' is...but I believe that anybody could tell one other what the community
isn't. That said, here are 3 things I rolled across as I spidered across the interweb this week:
Dogpoet. Michael McAllister's a San Francisco resident who is celebrating his 10th year of blogging. Yes, 10 years. Did you even know what a blog was 10 years ago? Talk about trendsetting. It's a terrific blog. If you dive in and look around it's possible you'll eventually feel a couple different things: 1) you know this guy (and you're pretty happy about that), 2) you feel like you've been to San Francisco...and if you have been to The City then you can say you've been to
his San Francisco. I know you're thinking, "Ten years, but dang...I can't & won't catch up or get it or understand..." Balderdash. Conveniently, there is an
About page that will fill you in on all necessary McAllister-isms. Want to catch up fast so you can name drop at a cocktail party? Then go to the
Best Of page and read up, up, up. And let's lift our glasses up, up , up for another 10 years of this very cool, very City, very community blog.
So. Across the country to New York and we land somewhere in the land of Vuong...
Ocean Vuong. I've posted about Ocean before over
here. But trolling, er...travelling around the interweb this week & I found the. best. article about Etta James that I didn't know I'd missed until I read it. You can read it
here... and don't even try to tell me your eyes were dry afterward. Make sure you read all the posts on Ocean's blog - you have the opportunity to see
videos of him reading several of his poems. That's building community, people, building community...with some really cool poetry by a truly talented guy.
And the doll? Well, it's hard for me to narrow down the number of dolls in this next blurb. San Francisco is a city filled with dolls. In this case the people of the City have the opportunity to relive three episodes of Three's Company live on stage through mid-March. That's 3, count them 3, episodes of 3's Company. What a Tripper! It brings new meaning to March Madness! The a-gay-zingly talented
D'Arcy Drollinger recreates Chrissy every performance. D'Arcy Drollinger has been bi-coastal for so many years it's surprising that the United States isn't only 4 states wide. From mainstream productions like Hairspray and The Producers to his own confections like Above and Beyond the Valley of the Ultra Showgirls and Project: Lohan D'arcy's been busy. Right now he's busy with a freaking Go-Go. That's right, Three's Company features non other than uber LGBTQI supporter
Jane Wiedlin as Chrissy. Tickets are available at
Brown Paper Tickets. So go if you can, and if you can't, well then talk about it as if you were in the front row.
So there. Three more reasons that will help build community. Your community. My community. Our community. The community. Till soon....
